WELCOME TO WELLS-MCCOMAS POST 2678

Teamwork ~ Leadership ~ Commitment
Chartered August 23rd 1932, Wells-McComas Post # 2678, Veterans of Foreign Wars, is named after two young soldiers from the War of 1814.  Private Daniel Wells was 19 and Private Henry McComas just 18 when they served as sharpshooters in Captain Edward Asquith's Militia Rifle Company.  As Major General Robert Ross marched his British forces towards Baltimore, Privates Wells and McComas mortally wounded him, stopping the enemy's advance during the Battle of North Point.  The two young patriots were killed; but, Ross' death is credited to saving Baltimore from falling to the British.

Veterans continue to honor the memory of Privates Wells and McComas and the importance of the Battle of North Point with the community's annual Defender's Day Celebration held at Fort Howard Park on the seconded week in September.

Announcements

On May 15th the board met again and there is still no change to the orders given by National to remain closed.  We also decided that there will be nomination and elections via mail and phone. You will receive a post card first to start the nomination process then then, at the beginning of June you will receive the ballots for the elections.
If any one needs face masks please call the post and leave a message. We will get back to you ASAP.

On April 1st, the board had a meeting via conference call to discuss the status of the post. At this time, we decided that because of the directive of the Gov. to Stay-At-Home in place, the post canteen and events of our organization will be cancelled for the month of April. The post elections will be postponed and all officers will remain in place until we can have a proper meeting with nominations and elections. The board will meet again on May 1st to re-evaluate and discuss the situation at that time.

Note from the Commander
TO ALL MEMBERS, if there are any veterans or family of veterans that may need help during these trying times, such as getting groceries or picking up your prescriptions, please give me a call 410 299-7796.
